Why Living in North Devon is The Best
North Devon is home to beautiful beaches, picturesque towns and some of the best ice-cream in the world! Others may say that it is inaccessible and boring for their liking, however, we are here to change any sceptics minds about this beautiful part of the UK.
Maybe one of the best reasons North Devon is so great is because of the creamy and delicious ice-cream which is made here. Hocking’s ice-cream is out of this world and has been around since 1936. You may be thinking what’s all the fuss about! But anyone who has tasted this extraordinary ice-cream will without a doubt tell you it’s the best that they have ever had! Due to its top-secret recipe, which has remained unchanged for all these years, it has become a brand which locals and holiday-makers look forward to when the weather finally warms up. North Devon would be incomplete without it.
North Devon is famous for its beaches and rightfully so! Long stretches of sand which are perfect to soak up the rays in summer, or great for a winter stroll. Take a look below at some of our favourite beaches in the area.
Woolacombe is one of the finest beaches in the West Country, and it’s easy to see why it has won several awards. It is a favourite among locals, holidaymakers and surfers and attracts thousands in the summer months. Because of the sheer size of the beach, you will always be able to find a quiet place to relax.
Croyde Bay is popular among surfers, swimmers and sun worshipers and has been said to be one of the best surfing beaches in the world. There are rock pools at either end of the beach, as well as public footpaths around the village and in particular walks to Baggy Point, which offer spectacular views.
Barnstaple and Ilfracombe are just some of the best places to dine in this part of Devon. However, Bideford is often overlooked when it comes to places to dine out, so the following are my two favourite places to eat in this area.
The Pig on The Hill is located just outside of Bideford, which serves some delicious and wholesome pub food. Their daily specials will be sure to entice you, and they also have some delicious vegetarian food as well as gluten-free options.
The Italian Kitchen, which lies in the heart of Bideford, is a great place to indulge in some authentic Italian food. The atmosphere and great food really sets this restaurant apart from the rest, make sure you try their delicious pizzas and their indulgent Nutella pizza for dessert!
As well as some great restaurants, North Devon is a place where you will find the famous cream tea. Supposedly, in Devon, you must put the cream on first (like butter) then top with jam. This often causes a debate in the office, as a handful of us prefer the ‘Cornish’ way.
Taking this all into account, North Devon is actually a pretty cool place to live. What are your thoughts on North Devon?
