Meet the Team: Interview with Social Media Guru Annie

Now, we’ve interviewed a few members of our team over the years, revealing some rather interesting facts about some of the Ducard members including our Business Development Manager and our Director. Today we opted for someone who is often regarded as the life and soul of the office party, Annie (A.K.A Queen of Social Media). She’s given us an insight into her life both in and out of work, along with some top tips on making the most of your social media channels as a business!

Tell us a little about yourself and how you came to be a Social Media Specialist?

Hello, 👋🏻 I’m Annie, I’m 23, and I studied communications at the University of Leicester. I graduated in 2016, the year the 5000/1 team won the Premier League, and I’m not saying the two are related, but they probably are. I have always been interested in social media, and how companies can use it to further their online presence.

What’s the best thing about your job?

I love that not every two days are the same. The digital landscape for social media marketing is in a constant state of change, whereby the best practice for one day might be completely different the next. It’s fun thinking of new ways that you can make the most of the many social media platforms, and it’s great to monitor success so you have a better idea of what will work in the future.

If the Ducard team were to describe you in three words, what do you think they would say?

Annoying, loud and hungry.

We know you love to travel, so tell us one of your best travelling stories:

When I was 18, on my ‘gap year’, myself and three friends visited Ha Long Bay in Vietnam. In an attempt to save money, we didn’t choose the fun, party boat tour that everyone else our age decided on, and instead opted for what can only be described as a senior-citizen cruise. Instead of shots, kayaking and dancing, we had 3-course meals, karaoke with the over-seventies and a 6 am wake-up for the pearl museum…

What’s your favourite flavour of tea?

I don’t really drink normal tea, so it will definitely be a green variety. I’m going to go mint, but this was by far the hardest question as I am partial to pomegranate, blueberry and a lemon drizzle.

You’re stranded on a desert island and you can only pick one meal to eat for the rest of your days, what is it?

Probably pasta, cheese and sweetcorn. 10/10, would recommend, and the pasta would hopefully keep me going for as long as possible…

What are you most excited about for 2018?

Have to be the World Cup, I’m not that patriotic, but I love the atmosphere around events like that. The return of Love Island is a close second, granted.

If you could invent anything, what would it be?

Probably something that opens cashews pistachios for you. It’s 2018 – how has no one thought of that yet?

*Editor’s note, Annie apparently doesn’t have much knowledge on nut names…

When you’re not creating engaging social content and strategies for the Ducard client, what do you get up to?

I like running, so go for the occasional jog when the weather is nice. My favourite thing to do is go to the beach, and we’re lucky enough to live next to a couple of sandy paradises, but Woolacombe is definitely my favourite. As mentioned before, I also like going on holiday.

Are there any social media tips you’d like to pass on to our readers?

I just think don’t underestimate the power of Facebook Ads. Even though organic reach is at an all-time low, the Facebook targeting tool can allow you to reach specific audiences that are most likely to convert, be this by age, location, gender or interest. Don’t rule them out purely because of lack of budget – if you’re spending at least £1 a day, you’re good to go! Also, keep it consistent; don’t waste all your hard work by not posting for several weeks at a time.
