In our last ‘meet the team’ interview, we got to know Annie, our Head of Social Media, who treated us to some fun facts about herself as well as one of her brilliant travel stories. Today, we’re giving our Head of SEO, Lewis, a good grilling to find out more about his role here at Ducard as well as what he likes to get up to outside the office!

Our Head of SEO, Lewis, on a bus holding a broken glass

Starting off with a classic, tell us all a little bit about yourself and your role here at Ducard?

I’m Lewis, I’m the Head of SEO, and I’m probably one of the only people you’ll meet who thinks winter is a better season than summer…

What initially sparked your interest in SEO?

I joined Ducard as a content writer and became interested in how everything worked behind the scenes. I would then go on to the internet to read about the latest trends and attend SEO conferences to try and learn as much as I could to keep my working practices as up-to-date as possible.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I enjoy monitoring the growth of a website through analytics and seeing how the processes I have implemented have positively impacted the site.

What do you find to be most challenging about it?

Probably waking up in the morning, I love sleep!

When you’re not being tech-wizard in the world of SEO, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I’m a massive Leeds United fan, so I try and get to as many live games as I can in a season. I’m also a pretty big film fan, so I enjoy watching them. I used to enjoy quite a few sports until my career-ending knee problems (aka I got old before my time!).

We all know that you’re a bit of a superhero fan, so tell us, what superhero would you be and why?

Definitely Batman. He’s got the vehicles, the gadgets and the best suit.

What’s been your highlight of 2018 so far?

The World Cup. It was incredible, even if I did get mugged off in the office sweepstake (I mean who pulls out Iran and Tunisia?!).

What three snacks would you buy to munch on during a Netflix binge?

Anything Reeses-related, BBQ flavour crisps (I have a mild addiction to crisps) and the marvellous creations chocolate with the popping candy. Probably the best bar of chocolate out there at the moment, don’t @ me.

If you had to choose between never stroking a dog again or eating a bucket load of mayonnaise, which would it be?

This is probably the world’s most unanswerable question because mayo is the worst thing to have ever been invented! What about if I just held my hand out and a dog walked into it?!

Finally, what’s the most important piece of advice you would give others when it comes to SEO?

Try to stay up-to-date with any changes that occur – such as Google updates or algorithm changes – that may negatively impact your website. Using the free tools like the Google Search Console and Analytics can help you monitor how your website is performing, but it is important that you check these regularly.
